The Upside of Anger is a 2005 drama / comedy / romance written and directed by Mike Binder. Set in the Detroit area, it stars Joan Allen, Kevin Costner and Evan Rachel Wood amongst others.

Terry Wolfmeyer (Allen) thinks that her husband has left her and run away with another woman to Sweden, and she has to raise her four daughters by herself. She finds herself in a mess of alcohol and anger. Denny Davies (Costner) is her neighbor, a retired baseball player who starts off as her drinking buddy but ends up as a romantic interest. Terry's daughters are left to deal with their mother's relationship and the changing family dynamics. At the end of the film they find that her husband had fallen into a hole in the back portion of their large property.
